indie rock / altpop

when we saw these youngsters at eddie veddar’s curated ohana festival in 2024, it was the new songs on the bands january 2025 new album burnout days that struck a chord in us. being casual enough fans of their debut full length shadowglow back in 2022, the growth was astonishing both within the writing and cadence of the songs, but also the stage presence of the floridians, who looked so in control and primed for that big leap. the last time we got a similar feeling about an indie rock band was the backseat lovers, and they have amassed themselves as one of indie rock’s fresh darlings.

we then followed ohana with saying to ourselves, “ok… we gotta see if this is real.” a few weeks later, we caught them at austin city limits and the vibes we just as strong and the set just as immaculate. and, what’s better is the band looked like they were having the time of their life. this is a dream and a joy vs a job, and there is something special about that. we recommend starting with “tides” and “burnout days”, and then start visiting the back catalog if you’re feeling it. “whales” is one of our personal favorites from the debut. while album two is merely half a year old, our guess is album three is going to have a good amount of fanfare around it with the indie rock pundits, so now is your chance to lay claim to flipside before the ultra big break comes.
