HYUKOH & SUNSET ROLLERCOASTER
Indie Rock
Taiwan, China & Seoul, South Korea
Maybe I missed the boat here, but I feel like it’s never too late to expand the mind and expand the regional tastes of music. Someone recently turned me onto this fantastic project by HYUKOH and Sunset Rollercoaster. The album is dubbed AAA, and when I say it’s not what you expect… I say that in the most meaningful and powerful way imaginable.
Folks, do not sleep on this album. For the fan of indie rock - this is an absolute blur of an album that manifests moments of MuteMath, Khruangbin, The War Against Drugs, and even moments of The Black Keys. “Y” is what got me hooked, but it was the album opener, “Kite War” that kept and hooked me. It’s like a funky fusion of all things indie rock, all things great. Guitars, atmospheric sound, synth, haunting vocals, echos, jazzy instruments. It’s… fresh. Truly.
Look for public radio like Dallas’ wonderful KXT or Seattle’s stellar KEXP to be all over this before too long if they aren’t already. Open up the mind and dive in - this is GOOD.
