Jordyn Shellhart

Country / Folk

Wheatland, Wyoming / Nashville, Tennessee

It’s not everyday you strike gold with a publishing deal, a record deal, your debut at Grand Ole Opry, and hit your first opening slot on a national tour all by the ripe ole age of 16. But that is exactly what Jordyn Shellhart did. Now in her late twenties, what happened 14 years ago seems like a distant scream and faded memory.

In the in-between, Shellhart recalls to Billboard, “I lost my voice and I had to regroup. I started over as a songwriter, trying to figure out what my life looked like in music without being a singer. It was pretty jarring at the time, but looking back, it was the best thing that ever happened to me.” That start over led to her penning songs for Little Big Town, Kelsea Ballerini, Cody Johnson, and many of top level country acts.

But then the itch returned. The itch to write her own music and write for herself. Which led Shellhart to where we are at now… her debut for Warner Nashville. Primrose, releasing on May 19th, draws influence for numerous sources, but the undying influence of Nashville rule-breakers Kacey Musgraves and Maren Morris is undeniable. Fans of either/both artists need to check Shellhart out. However, the influences flow far beyond the fertile country river. Elements of indie darling Phoebe Bridgers can be heard, and, of course, elements of folklore and evermore era Taylor Swift.

Shellhart has all the makings to be the newest Nashville rule-breaker, playing by her rules, her lyrics, her stories, and her unapologetic ability to be herself - years after the first taste of success.
